Willenhall Station

Ends: 7 September 2026

Last updated: 3 September 2025

What’s happening?

2 new railway stations are being built along the Walsall – Wolverhampton line at Darlaston and Willenhall.

Willenhall station will provide quicker and more reliable journeys to places like Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Walsall, reducing congestion and pollution.

The station will have 2 platforms, lifts, ticket machines, information screens and secure bike parking.

In addition to this, work is being carried out throughout 2025 to create a network of improved cycling routes in the Willenhall area and along the A454 corridor.

In order to build these segregated cycle paths, a series of highway works are taking place along the A454 Willenhall Road, the New Road and Somerford Place.

Please check back here regularly for updates on local road closures and bus diversion in this area.

Willenhall Station

Essential works will begin on Bilston Street, Willenhall from March 2025 as part of the construction of the new Willenhall Railway Station. To carry out these works safely:

  • Bilston Street and Rose Hill will be closed to southbound traffic from 24 March through to summer 2025.
  • Bilston Street Bridge will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists throughout.
  • A signed diversion route will be in place, directing traffic via A462/Shepwell Green for B4590/Bilston Lane and B4464/Somerford Place for A454/The Keyway.
  • Access to homes and businesses will be maintained at all times.

Buses

The following bus services will continue under the following diversions:

National Express: Service 25 towards Wolverhampton will divert via New Road, Walsall Street, Walsall Road, Crescent Road and Bilston Lane.

Diamond: Service 57 towards Bilston will divert via New Road, Walsall Street, Walsall Road, Crescent Road and Bilston Lane.

Both services will use Willenhall Market Place bus stop instead of Bilston Street bus stop for the duration of the works.

Exceptional Full Overnight Closure from 13 to 14 September

There will be a full overnight closure of Bilston Street on Saturday 13 September 2025 from 20.00 until Sunday 14 September at 09.30 to ensure the safe installation of a crane. This is part of the essential works to create the site entrance to the new Willenhall Rail station.
Signed diversions will be in place and some bus routes will be diverted. The one way Southbound will return on the Bridge from 14 September through to Christmas 2025 with one-way temporary lights controlling traffic flow.
