Park and Ride

We provide over 9,000 car parking spaces across the West Midlands. They are at train stations and tram stops.

Park and ride helps reduce congestion. Drivers can park their cars and get public transport for the rest of their journey.

What we’re doing to expand park and ride

We are expanding our park and ride sites. We are also building new ones. We work with local councils to do this.

We are planning to expand park and ride sites at:

  • Tile Hill train station
  • Whitlocks End train stations

We’re also planning to build new park and ride sites at:

  • Dudley Port train station
  • Sandwell and Dudley train station
  • Tame Bridge Parkway train station
  • Minworth for Sprint

We’re upgrading existing park and ride sites with:

  • better lighting
  • electric vehicle charging
  • cycle hubs

We’re also building temporary park and ride sites for the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

Longbridge Park and Ride

Longbridge Park and Ride is our new £7 million park and ride site. It has 629 car park spaces across 6 floors.

People can park here to catch trains or buses to Birmingham city centre. Longbridge train station is nearby as well as several bus stops. It is easy to get to from the M5, M42 and A38.

The park and ride has:

  • lifts
  • disabled parking
  • motorbike parking
  • electric vehicle charging
  • bike shelters
  • CCTV
  • energy saving lighting
  • emergency help points
  • reservable parking spaces
  • Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)

You have to pay to park. We have made this easy by providing several methods of payment, including Swift.

If you use Swift Go, we can charge you based on when you enter and leave the park and ride. Please see below for more information on how to pay with Swift.

This project was part-funded with £1.8 million from Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP and Midlands Engine.

Bradley Lane Park and Ride

Bradley Lane Park and Ride is a new £2.6 million park and ride for tram users. We built it in 2020. It is free to use and has 196 car park spaces.

You can park here to catch trams to Birmingham city centre and Wolverhampton.

The park and ride has:

  • disabled parking
  • electric vehicle charging
  • motorbike parking
  • disabled access to tram platforms
  • bike shelters
  • CCTV
  • street lighting
  • emergency help points

We dug up some football pitches during construction. We’ve now reinstated them.

Swift Parking

The quickest and smartest way to pay for car parking is with Swift. There's no need to search for coins when you want to park and go.

There are different ways you can pay for parking with Swift:

What is Swift Parking?

Pay for parking with Swift using your mobile phone. There's no need to worry about searching for change or queuing for the pay machine.

You can:

  • choose your preferred car park
  • see the car park’s opening hours and costs
  • select the parking duration you want
  • get alerts before your parking session expires
  • extend your parking time remotely
  • view your transaction history

What is Swift Go?

Swift Go caps how much you pay. It works on the tram and most buses in the West Midlands. It can also be used to pay for parking at some car parks.

You can either top up your Swift Go balance or store a bank card in your Swift account. You won't have to worry about your parking fees any more.

How do I pay for parking using Swift Go?

  1. Log into or sign up to your Swift account
  2. Set up Swift Go and select car parking as an additional service in the menu
  3. If you already have Swift Go, just switch Swift Go parking on in your Swift Go account
  4. Provide a valid VRN for your car
  5. Make sure that there is a payment method attached to your Swift Go
  6. We will scan your plate when you enter the car park
  7. Once you leave the car park, we will calculate your parking fee and charge your Swift Go account
  8. No need to pay and display, no paying upfront, no app necessary
  9. You can view all your parking fees in your Swift Go account

You can use your Swift pay as you go credit to pay for parking. No more looking for change.
If there's a Swift logo on the payment machine, you can pay with your credit.

Bromsgrove train station

Locate the Swift pay and display machine, near the ticket office. Follow the on-screen instructions, choosing the cheaper price when you pay with Swift pay as you go.

Longbridge park & ride

Use your Swift pay as you go card at the ground floor pay stations to deduct the charge from your balance.
