Depending on how and when you travel, there are different Swift cards you can choose from. This page will help you choose the best one for you.
Swift Go
For easy and flexible travel across the region, choose Swift Go. With Swift Go, you don’t need to think about your ticket in advance.
Hop on board, tap your card and at the end of the week we’ll check what journeys you’ve made and work out the cheapest way for you to pay. This is called capping.
With Swift Go, you also get:
- Value for money: never pay more than £5.20 a day on bus, and £8.70 on bus and tram
- Flexible travel: access to best value tickets across bus, tram and different operators
- Local prices: discounted day tickets in Walsall and Sandwell & Dudley
- Complete control: monitor your spending in your Swift account

New Swift users will need to set up an account and buy a card online. You will receive it within 7 days.
Existing Swift users can activate Swift Go in your account. You will need to collect Swift Go using a ticket machine or the TfWM app. Download the app below:
You can use Swift Go on all trams and most buses in the region.
Using Swift Go on the bus
- Look for the sticker on the door which will show whether the bus accepts Swift Go. Or see which operators accept Swift Go on our cap prices webpage.
- Simply tap your Swift Go card against the reader. You do not need to tap again when getting off the bus.
Using Swift Go on the tram
- Give your Swift Go card to the conductor and tell them what stop you’re getting off at.
Swift Go is only for persons aged 18 and over. You cannot share your Swift Go card with others.

Top-up your account
Top-up your Swift Go account with one off payments when you need to. Charges will be taken from your balance the next day. Make sure that your Swift Go balance will cover your charges.
There are 3 ways you can manually top up your Swift Go balance:
- Online via your Swift account
- At your local payzone
- At your nearest Swift ticket machine
Auto Pay
Alternatively, add your debit or credit card and you will be billed once a week each Sunday at 8 am for all charges for the previous week.
You can also combine Top-Up and Auto Pay. You will be billed once a week each Sunday at 8 am for all charges for the previous week. Payment will be taken from your Swift Go balance first, if it does not cover the charge in full we will then bill your debit or credit card.
You can change your payment card in this section of your account.
- Log in to your Swift account
- On the 'manage your account' homepage, you'll see a welcome message. Below it, you will see a message saying 'Swift Go is active'
- Select the option 'Manage Swift Go'
- On this page you will see 'My Swift Go Summary'. Below this, your charges and usage is displayed
- You can change the time period in the date drop down and switch between seeing your charges or usage
What happens if my payment fails?
Not enough balance on account:
You must top-up your account balance before 8pm.
If you have a payment card saved on your account, payment will be taken from your Swift Go balance first. If it does not cover the charge in full we will then bill the payment card saved on your account.
Payment will be attempted again at 8pm. If your payment fails a second time, Swift Go will be blocked on your card, and you will not be able to travel.
Payment could not be taken from your saved payment card:
This could be due to an expired payment card or an issue with your card provider. Add another payment card to your account before 8pm.

My Swift Go is blocked, what should I do?
Swift Go Top-up:
Top-up your account with enough credit to cover your charges. Once a successful payment is received, we will notify you when your Swift Go is unblocked. You will need to collect your Swift Go on your card before you can use it to travel.
Swift Go Auto-pay:
Add another payment card to your account. Once a successful payment is received, we will notify you when your Swift Go is unblocked. You will need to collect your Swift Go on your card before you can use it to travel.
Swift Pay As You Go
Prefer to pre-pay? Then a Swift Pay As You Go card may be better for you.
Swift Pay As You Go cards could be a better option if you:
- don’t use public transport every day
- are under 18
- want to share your Swift card with somebody else
- don’t have a bank account
Swift Pay As You Go cards can only be used on bus and tram.
You can order a Swift Pay As You Go card online. If you’re a new user, set up an account. You’ll get your card within 5 working days.
You can also buy a card in person from your nearest Swift ticket machine.
You will have to top up your pay as you go card in order to use it. You can top it up with anything from £10 to £50. You can top up your card:
- Online
- On the TfWM app
- At a Payzone store
- At a Swift ticket machine
